Guns in NYC Hospitals

Union boss wants hospital security to carry guns

Gregory Floyd, president of Teamsters Local 237, in NYC, wants hospital guards in the 11 public hospitals
of NYC to be armed.
Patients and staff need to be protected and armed guards is the best way to assure their safety.
Hospitals are not exempt from violence. If you work in a hospital, you’d know this to be true.

“The city’s unarmed “hospital police” are uniformed peace officers who handle 1,500 to 1,700 violent
incidents each year, said spokesman Bob de Luna.
They make “an estimated 300 arrests” a year, mostly for disorderly conduct and harassment,
plus trespassing, criminal mischief, theft, and assault.
“We make felony arrests. We take weapons, guns and drugs off people. We’ve had to call NYPD to
back us up with gang members trying to get into the ER to see their ‘homies,’” an officer said.”

People should feel safe in a hospital and armed guards can do that.  Retired or moonlighting cops are
best to fill these positions. Northwell Health with it’s 6 locations has already begun this practice.
